What’s the business all about?
The business is Davy
Markham, an engineering firm with a 180-year Sheffield heritage. Two firms came
together to create the business we can see today. These were Davy, a
manufacturer of steel roller tables and beyond, and Markham, a manufacturer of
mining equipment supplying industries in Peru, Canada and a manufacturer of tunneling equipment, who
notably worked on the Channel Tunnel between England and France. With a team of
150 people at their Darnall premises, Davy Markham is looking to grow their
workforce with some graduate talent.
What would you be doing?
will fall in three main areas: Manufacturing, Mechanical Design and
Electro-Hydraulic Design. Typical activities might include:
knowledge of fluid systems and mechanical properties of materials
of stresses in moving components.
customer requirements into basic design parameters
drawings including scheme and assembly using 2D + 3D CAD software
parts lists and bills of materials which enable the purchase of raw materials
up document files capable of being audited by external bodies
in value engineering and cost reduction programmes
of tolerances and tolerance capabilities of manufacturing functions
electrical design, such as controls and circuits used in conjunction with
of hydraulics to operate valves and solenoids
What type of person are they looking for?
looking for an Engineering graduate who can bring a fresh pair of eyes to the
firm. The successful person will be:
· An Engineering graduate, ideally Mechanical
· Bright and keen to learn about the business, its products and
· Diplomatic – skilled at handling situations without arousing
· An excellent communicator, able to associate with employees at all
levels of the company
· Ideally have experience through a summer placement or a year in
· Quick to pick up new IT systems, and competent with Microsoft
Office, AutoCAD and ideally Finite analysis software
Highly professional and strong-minded – wallflowers need not
· Proactive, completing tasks without being prompted
