-DavyMarkham was responsible for the mechanical, electrical and hydraulics systems that control the entire tilting process and earn the bridge its nickname, the ‘Blinking Eye’.
DavyMarkham scope included design, manufacture, installation and commissioning
DavyMarkham – design, manufacture, installation and commissioning of the hydraulic ram, the hydraulic ram control systems and supporting structure.
DavyMarkham designed, engineered, fabricated and installed this unique bridge and as part of the design process developed novel solutions in the use of glass as a structural medium.
DavyMarkham are currently working on the restoration of this Grade II listed structure. DavyMarkham are undertaking the swing bridge refurbishment on a total project management basis, including all mechanical, electrical, hydraulic and control equipment, DavyMarkham is initially examining the structure and analysing material samples, with a view to retaining and reutilising as many of the existing features as possible and preserving the bridge’s original appearance. English Heritage has endorsed the restoration plans.
DavyMarkham used its engineering expertise to develop a solution for Pirelli, Europe’s biggest manufacturer of power cables. DavyMarkham designed, built and installed a series of Storage and Degassing Turntables – turntables that formed part of the cable production process and measured up to 12m in diameter with a 1000 tonne capacity; the turntables are dedicated to the manufacture of submarine cables used for power transmission and distribution.
The job was undertaken on a turnkey project basis, with DavyMarkham carrying out the engineering design, including computerised finite element analysis, fabricating the equipment at the Prince of Wales Road works, Sheffield, installing the turntables at Erith, Kent and commissioning the plant and associated control system.
