DavyMarkham In £7.5m Mining Contract Win 29/07/2010
NOF Energy member, DavyMarkham, has been awarded a major contract worth £7.5 million to supply three specialist hoists to a new copper and zinc mine in Canada.As part of the agreement, Sheffield-based DavyMarkham, will build and deliver Production, Service and Auxiliary Hoists measuring up to 16ft in diameter for the Hudson Bay Mining Inc (HBMI). Full story Students rise to Master Cutler's Innovation Challenge 10/08/2010 TWO students from Sheffield Springs Academy are celebrating after winning the second annual Master Cutler's Made in Sheffield Innovation Competition.Their brief, set by DavyMarkham Ltd, was to design a station to organise the safe storage of tools in the workshop.Students from schools in Sheffield have spent three months rising to the challenges set by local businesses that hold the prestigious Made in Sheffield (MIS) Mark. Full story Manufacturers urged to back skills initiative 03/01/2010 Manufacturers across South Yorkshire are being urged to give their backing to a new initiative to enthuse school children about a career in engineering and help them to gain the basic skills they need to train as apprentices.The Passport to Work programme is the brainchild of a number of leading local industrialists, led by Kevin Parkin and Vince Middleton, managing directors of Davy Markham and Newburgh Engineering.They have teamed up with Business & Education South Yorkshire, the Industrial Trust, the National Metals Technology Centre (NAMTEC) and Sheffield City Council with the aim of raising the standard of work experience for pupils and guaranteeing to industry that any youngster with the Passport will have the basic skills they need.
