DavyMarkham Engineers Movement for Gloucester's New Lift Bridge   15/07/2009
Sheffield heavy engineering company, DavyMarkham has gained a £750,000 contract for the mechanical, electrical and hydraulic elements of a spectacular lifting bridge over the canal at Gloucester.Designed by Bristol architects White Young Green, St Ann Way Bridge will dramatically enhance the city's transport system, linking the inner relief road to the newly-completed bypass, and provide a focal point for the regeneration of central Gloucester, being led by the Gloucester Heritage Urban Regeneration Company.The contract was awarded by leading civil engineering construction company, Alun Griffiths Contractors, and the bridge project itself is being funded and managed by national regeneration agency, English Partnerships, supported by the South West RDA. Another Moving Bridge Story For DavyMarkham   09/06/2009

Young apprentices from Sheffield heavy engineering firm, DavyMarkham, were recently among the first visitors to Dormer Tools' brand new training centre, at South Yorkshires Advanced Manufacturing Park.A joint venture between Yorkshire Forward and UK Coal, the AMP is a world-class manufacturing technology site and Dormer Tools, market leading producer of solid carbide and high speed steel cutting tools, has opened an exciting new facility there, which houses a purpose-equipped training centre and R&D unit. UK Consortium Formed to Bid for ITER Fusion Reactor Vessel   01/04/2009
UK companies have formed a consortium to bid for construction of the main reactor vacuum vessel of the 5 billion Euro ITER (International Tokamak Experimental Reactor) nuclear fusion reactor, being built in Cadarache, France.The consortium comprises Davy Markham, a specialist in the fabrication and machining of large structures, and precision fabricator Metalcraft.Engineering consultancy AMEC and The Welding Institute are providing specialist support that will be needed during the construction of the vacuum vessel segments. Former Home Secretary and the Member of Parliament for Sheffield Brightside, David Blunkett, visited the Sheffield works of heavy engineering concern, DavyMarkham, last week.Sheffield born, bred and educated, and Leader of the City Council for seven years, David Blunkett was keen to see how a local company is competing successfully in international markets, recently gaining contracts valued in excess of £20 million and recruiting extra staff to cope with the workload.He was met by DavyMarkham's MD, Kevin Parkin, who has been largely instrumental in the company's turnaround in recent years, the firm's Chairman, Ian Forbes, and Garry Wilson of Yorkshire-based Endless LLP, which backed last year's management buyout. 60s Teenager Celebrates Over 40 Years Working At DavyMarkham   18/03/2009
In 1968, Britain's best selling car was the Austin 1100, the Ford Escort was launched, Mary Quant's miniskirt became a classic, men wore hipster loons, we watched Z Cars and The Forsyte Saga, and ate at Wimpy Bars and Lyons Corner Houses.That year's big films were Barbarella and 2001: A Space Odyssey, the Beatles helped LP sales to soar, the first tandoori ovens were introduced, Sheffield Wednesday finished 15th in Division One, while United were 9th in Division Two, having been relegated the previous season.It was also the year that 15 year old Steve Brooks started work in Sheffield as an apprentice welder. Three Senior Appointments Covering Training, Quality & Estimating   26/02/2009
To gear up for an expanding order book, Sheffield heavy engineering company Davy Markham has made three strategic appointments to strengthen its administrative team.John Moseby has been recruited as Training Controller, to manage the firm's growing apprenticeship programme; Chris Abraham has been appointed Assistant Quality Manager, working initially on the $20m IAMGOLD mine winding contract; while Allan Holdgate joins as a Senior Estimator, liaising with subcontractors and obtaining best prices on materials and transport.
