DavyMarkham unveils finance deal which will secure lucrative contract 06/10/2008
6th November 2008 DavyMarkham has secured a £1.3m finance deal which will help it secure a £10m Canadian contract.The company secured the deal to refinance its capital structure from Barclays Commercial Bank. Full story 'Ultimate 50 Year Service' For Valdunes Forging Press In France 20/08/2008 The newly-formed dedicated Reconditioning Service at Sheffield heavy engineering company, DavyMarkham, has overseen the refurbishment and technical upgrading of a Davy 6000 tonne forging press for Valdunes of Dunkerque, one of the world's leading manufacturers of railway wheels and axles.The press was originally supplied by the Sheffield works in 1956 and has since produced literally millions of forged wheels, at a rate of around one wheel every minute, eventually necessitating the most extensive overhaul in its history.Representing perhaps 'the ultimate 50 year service', the DavyMarkham refurbishment package totalled £1/2 million and returned the machine to better than original condition, complete with new columns, bearings and high tech tensioners, delivering very substantial savings over new capital equipment costs and minimising operational downtime. Full story DavyMarkham Shop Stewards Work To Secure Firm's Future 09/08/2008 Amidst all the financial doom and gloom, at least one Sheffield engineering company, DavyMarkham, is upbeat about its future and enjoying the wholehearted support of its union representatives and 180-strong workforce.So much so, that senior members of its Joint Shop Stewards Committee, Chairman Sam Wragg, Deputy Andy Tuohy and Secretary Mick Jay, have declared that union members are keen to work closely with management and address the challenges the company faces in an increasingly global marketplace. Full story Company of Cutlers in Hallamshire Visits DavyMarkham 27/06/2008 The highlight of the Sheffield social calendar is, without doubt, the Cutlers' Feast, which has been held every year since 1682.This year's Feast, hosted by the current Master Cutler, Gordon Bridge, was attended by 375 guests including nobility, dignitaries, leading local and national industrialists, and Freemen of the Cutlers' Company.The principal guest and speaker this year was the Rt Hon William Hague MP, who returned to Sheffield for his second Cutlers' Feast. Full story 320T Cutterhead For China's Biggest TBM Tunnelling Project 01/05/2008 Sheffield heavy engineering company DavyMarkham has fabricated and shipped a 320 tonne cutterhead for a 12.4m diameter tunnel boring machine (TBM), being built by The Robbins Company of Ohio, the world's foremost manufacturer of underground construction machinery.It has been despatched to the mountains of Sichuan Province, China, where it will be instrumental in one of the biggest TBM-driven tunnelling projects in Chinese history, for the new 4,800MW Jinping II hydropower station on the Yalong River.Once completed in 2010, this will be the largest power station in an ambitious project for owners Ertan Hydropower Development Company, which will transmit electricity to many eastern provinces and such cities as Shanghai and Beijing.
