Successful Sheffield Engineering Firm Reverts To Legacy Names 20/10/2006
AK Heavy Engineering, the Sheffield-based engineering design and manufacturing specialist, has announced that it is changing its name to DavyMarkham, with immediate effect.The new identity reflects the proud heritage and engineering legacy of its two original founding companies, Davy Brothers of Sheffield and Markham & Co of Chesterfield, each of which has contributed immensely toward Britain's heavy engineering infrastructure and made its reputation known around the world.It is felt that combining these historic trade names will provide a suitable platform for developing fresh marketing opportunities in the steel industry, civil engineering, hydroelectric & nuclear power, mining and tunnelling. Full story DavyMarkham Throws The Spotlight On Fabrication Team 04/10/2006 DavyMarkham, the Sheffield-based engineering design and manufacturing company with an industrial heritage dating back to 1830, is throwing the spotlight on the capabilities and market experience of its specialised Fabrication Department.Dedicated to producing mainly one-off bespoke fabrications using skilled materials-joining technology, the department is staffed by a team of qualified personnel, each with more than 25 years' experience of heavy fabrication work.All are apprentice trained and hold a wide variety of technical, metallurgical and associated qualifications, from welding trade skills to degree level, with the majority also certificated for working in confined spaces.They are based in a purpose-equipped 6,000 square metre fabrication shop, handling projects from 5 to 90 tonnes plus and working in a wide variety of plate materials, with scope for larger fabrications in the assembly area. Full story 5 Metre Wide Plate Mill Stand For Greenfield Site In India 10/03/2006 Sheffield heavy engineering company, DavyMarkham is undertaking a £1 million manufacturing contract for the finish machining, inspection and proof assembly of a 5m wide steel plate mill stand, due to be installed at a greenfield site in Orissa, on the east coast of India.The order was placed by VAI UK, one of the world's leading plant-building companies for the iron, steel and aluminium industries, which was recently commissioned to provide a complete plate mill and shearline for dynamic Indian producer, Jindal Steel & Power Limited. Full story Biggest-Ever Machined Castings For Biggest-Ever Screw Press 05/01/2006 Roads in Sheffield were closed and nighttime traffic diverted on two occasions recently, as the western world's largest steel castings, each weighing around 350 tonnes or the equivalent of 45 London Routemaster buses, were hauled by 72-wheel transporters from Sheffield Forgemasters across town to the DavyMarkham engineering works in Prince of Wales Road.The castings, each poured from almost 600 tonnes of liquid steel and eventually machined to precision tolerances of +/- 0.1mm, are solid testimony to the world class metallurgy, casting, machining and logistical skills of British industry generally and two long-standing Sheffield companies in particular.
