Three Senior Appointments Covering Training, Quality & Estimating
To gear up for an expanding order book, Sheffield heavy engineering company Davy Markham has made three strategic appointments to strengthen its administrative team. John Moseby has been recruited as Training Controller, to manage the firm's growing apprenticeship programme; Chris Abraham has been appointed Assistant Quality Manager, working initially on the $20m IAMGOLD mine winding contract; while Allan Holdgate joins as a Senior Estimator, liaising with subcontractors and obtaining best prices on materials and transport.

"Given recent and forthcoming important contract gains and our recently restored apprentice training programme, we need to carefully manage quality and cost issues on major projects and build up our own complement of suitably qualified personnel, to compensate for a national skills shortage," says DavyMarkham MD, Kevin Parkin. "John, Chris and Allan are all experienced in their particular fields and will gear up our capabilities in key areas."
John Moseby, of Aston, Sheffield, was previously an independent Training Consultant and a Health & Safety Manager with a Rotherham stainless steel specialist, although he worked for DavyMarkham earlier, first as an Apprentice Machinist and later as a Machine Shop Foreman. In his new role, John will ensure that the company's young trainees receive the best possible academic and practical tuition and complete their apprenticeships with the technical skills required. He will also liaise with external training agencies to plan the continued intake of fresh apprentices of the right calibre.
Chris Abraham, of Grenoside, Sheffield, was formerly a Quantity Engineer with an ISO9001 accredited, Barnsley machining and fabrication company and, before that, Quality Control Inspector with a Sheffield metal components manufacturer and a Rotherham forgings specialist. In his new position, he will be closely involved in all aspects of quality and non-destructive testing, drawing upon an impressive array of technical qualifications. Chris will also collaborate with Quality Manager, Derek Cooper, and Technical Support Manager, Paul Madin, on the implementation of the company's ISO14001 Environmental Management system.
Allan Holdgate, of Sherburn, Malton, North Yorkshire, was latterly a Subcontract Estimator with a major steel producer, engaged in estimating third-party work for the internal steelworks, and additionally has production planning, technical sales and works management experience, having initially been apprenticed as a toolmaker. At DavyMarkham, Allan will deploy his extensive experience of costing large contracts and obtaining optimum prices for castings, forgings, materials and shipping, in addition to liaising with sub-contractors when there are internal capacity constraints at the Darnall Works.
