April 26th, 2017
Two DavyMarkham 2016 apprentices, Jack and Katy represented both DM and the AMRC by supporting Wingfield Academy at the Get Up to Speed event on the 26th of April 2017. Jack and Katy have been supporting this project since January 207 and have mentored the Y9 group from Wingfield Academy to research, design, develop and prototype a portable and sturdy drill bit holder for the AMRC Training Centre. The apprentices provided guidance to the students throughout the process to ensure that the students got the most from the experience.
Jack and Katy, along with the 12 y9 students from Wingfield, presented their completed work and gave explanation and demonstration of their prototype to the Judges at the Get up to Speed event. The students also presented their project to members of the public attending the event as well as industry leading experts, company Directors and Engineers.
Wingfield did a fantastic job of delivering the project supported by Jack and Katy and were delighted to come 2nd in the competition which consisted of 9 schools undertaking various other industry related projects.
Jack and Katy enjoyed the experience and were delighted to support the school and hope to work with Wingfield and their students again in the future.
“I am proud to have represented
DavyMarkham and the AMRC at the GUTS event. The students of Wingfield were brilliant and we are
very proud of them for achieving 2nd place in the competition. We
would definitely like to do something like this again!” Jack Gascoigne, DavyMarkham, Engineering Design Apprentice
