DavyMarkham recognises 'Silver Spanner' apprentices
DavyMarkham recently presented its first batch of apprentices with much coveted 'DavyMarkham Silver Spanner' in recognition of the completion of their World Class Apprentice Training.

The five apprentices have now completed their, NVQ Level 3 having completed 3 years training in the fully equipped in house training school run by Pete Kerfoot. The training school replicates all of the same technologies that appear on the shopfloor including 5S, planned maintenance and corrective action quality controls.

DavyMarkham's Managing Director - Kevin Parkin said that "The apprentices have a great opportunity to ultimately get a degree in engineering whilst gaining practical experience and an understanding of innovation, quality, health and safety and continuous improvement practices which we hope they will continue throughout their careers."

Kevin added "We are delighted that they have all progressed both academically and personally and are now operating as fully skilled craftsmen."

Ryan Clarkson has won the DavyMarkham Apprentice of the Year trophy in 2009 and the Leeds Association of Engineers Apprentice of the Year Trophy in 2010.

DavyMarkham will also be opening their doors to a number of selected schools during the Global Manufacturing Festival: Sheffield which takes place between 14th March 2011 and 24th March 2011. The festival will reaffirm the UK, and Sheffield, as a global leader in advanced engineering and manufacturing innovation. During the open day the apprentices will be hosting tours, showing pupils from 3 local schools the opportunities available to them through apprenticeships in manufacturing and engineering.

Issued: 23 February 2011
