Historically Davy has provided many hydraulic presses for the forging industry and decades later a good proportion of these are still in use. However, years of wear and tear have lead to major deterioration and subsequently to excessive downtime and poor quality product. Forging presses are often not duplicated within a facility, making any loss of production or quality unacceptable.
	DavyMarkham has the specialist know-how and facilities required to breathe new life into these presses. Successful upgrades recently completed include: A 5000tonne – Four column press for Valdunes, Dunkirk, France; A 1750tonne – Two column press for Special Metals Wiggins, Hereford, UK.

Our highly disciplined approach to contract management has allowed these large and complex machines to be stripped, refurbished and rebuilt within a short time, minimising loss of production.

Recent contracts have seen DavyMarkham provide the following services: Analysis of press structures, assessing stresses and deflections, fatigue implications, thermal growth and working clearances; Using up to date techniques in order to establish whether existing plant can be updated; On site investigations including 3 dimensional laser surveys to establish press movements, quality of foundations non-destructive testing; Dismantling and removal to our works of complete presses for refurbishment; Replacement, improvement and updating of main guide bearings; Replacement of complete guide columns, including specialised tensioning systems; Re-machining of main housings, restoring datum and reference surfaces, important fits; Reinstallation, re-commissioning and setting to work.
