DavyMarkham - Services - Reconditioning Service
DavyMarkham offers a dedicated service in the inspection and repair of mechanical equipment, returning it to service in ‘as new’ condition.

DavyMarkham’s knowledge and experience of manufacturing heavy moving machinery, is an essential factor when it comes to reconditioning or repairing equipment that has been in service and no longer performs satisfactorily. Although many components were originally designed for infinite life, many components are sacrificial items that were designed to be eventually replaced or refurbished.

The flexibility and diversity of our facilities means that total repair on small, medium and large components can be undertaken from 1 to 350 tonnes.

Our metallurgists and design team are able to advise upon improvements in material specification and design as well as the latest metal replacement techniques.

These resources enable us to improve or optimise the in-service performance of the equipment undergoing refurbishment or reconditioning to ensure maximum benefit to the customer – at significantly reduced costs compared with a replacement.

The steel rolling industry is a key customer for reconditioned parts, many of which were originally manufactured in our workshops over the past few decades. Typical items that we for recondition include: Rolling Mill Drive Spindles, Couplings and Chocks; complete Leveller Roll assemblies; Automatic Gauge Control systems (AGC’s) and Gearboxes. We have even brought complete rolling mill housings back to our workshops for repair, refurbishment and upgrading.

The Company also provides reconditioning services to the Forging Press market. With a few exceptions (mainly automotive and aerospace), nearly all of the forging plant in the United Kingdom is between 30 and 60 years old and requires ongoing maintenance and very often major attention when key components fail through fatigue or wear. DavyMarkham has a client list which includes some of the leading international forging companies with whom we work closely to return old equipment to a new or better than new working condition.

DavyMarkham supplies components to the quarrying industry, although not of Davy design, quarrying machinery is of a similar scale as rolling mills, presses and other very large pieces of precision equipment that are subjected to large operating forces in very hostile environments.

DavyMarkham is able to provide an experienced and dedicated project manager who oversees the full refurbishment process.

Fast-Track Service

DavyMarkham’s Fast-track service is available for high priority projects that need to be turned around rapidly to meet emergency requirements.

Each Fast-Track project has a dedicated project manager appointed to ensure that customer requirements are met – 24/7.

Fast-track customers also have access to the DavyMarkham metallurgists and design team who are able to advise upon:
  • Improvements in material selection;
  • Improvements in design; and
  • Latest metal replacement techniques.
These resources enable us to help ensure that the equipment undergoing refurbishment or reconditioning has improved or optimised in-service performance and maximised customer utilisation, all at significantly reduced costs compared to the manufacturer of new components.
