WELDING & FABRICATION INSPECTOR     
Applications are invited for the above position working in the Inspection / Fabricating Department within a heavy engineering company.
The main duties will involve the following:
- Carrying out a full range of fabricating inspection duties covering heavy fabrication and welding activities. The ability to work to ISO 9001 systems, quality plans, drawings and work instructions is essential.
- Interpreting drawing weld symbols and recording actual achieved status.
- Measuring and recording the results of plating fit up / weld preparations / pre heating detail requirements.
- Providing fabricating and welding inspection planning to ensure that the fabricating processes are completed correctly to drawing and specification.
- Communicating with Suppliers.
- Visiting sub contractors and sites as required carrying out inspection.
- Maintaining inspection records.
- Validating calibration of welding sets, furnaces, etc.
- Checking welder qualifications on production fabrications.
Full range experience of fabricating and welding inspection, covering a variety of materials, is essential.
Experience and ability to work to complex drawings is essential.
Applicants must be flexible, enthusiastic, energetic (there is a requirement for working at height and occasionally in a confined space environment), able to work within a team environment and carry out duties with a minimum amount of supervision.
The ability to work and communicate with departmental managers is essential.
Use of computers is required and knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel is desirable.
The Company has ISO 9001:2008 and ISO 14001 approval and also implements a Health and Safety Management System of working.
Some overtime working will be required and the successful applicant will also be expected to work with other inspectors as part of a team.
The successful applicant will report to the Quality Manager.
Interested applicants should have the following qualifications:
- Technical qualifications to BTEC, ONC or C&G Full Technological Certificate
- Craft or modern apprenticeship in mechanical engineering.
- CSWIP Certified Welding Inspector preferred
